Things that made me happy this morning:

• Save BOSS shows that a good community fights for its survival.
• Smashing magazine has a very short and concise introduction to JavaScript scope – I am missing module patterns though – would have been more useful than explaining how libraries do it.
• A great video of Bobby McFerrin showing at the world science festival that the pentatonic scale is innate knowledge to people – regardless of their cultural background.
• En-code is a very cool online tool to encode code and mask invalid characters.
• A collection of nice JavaScript driven animations and tutorials how to do them
• Vermont Scientists are trying to measure happiness using blogs and twitter as sources. They’re building a device to do so called a “Hedonometer”. Well, I am doing my bit
• A good geek explanation of Chinese characters
• Apparently you can create an online shop with Google checkout in 5 minutes haven’t tried that yet, but let’s give it a go
• Fontplore is an interface to walk through different fonts with a minority report feel to it.
• Give a geek WiiFit and he’ll try to game it, not game with it – check out what happens if you alternately play a Wii Fit character with two people with a weight difference of 100 pounds
• It is now easier to making image overlays in Google Maps with GGroundOverlay and GGeoXML
• The HTML5 group of the W3C has an interesting Web Database Draft for HTML5 – it is a SQL interface to data sources on the web, much like YQL but without the intermediate server.

• A great flickr collection of Lego Minifig re-enactments of classic photos
• The w3c showing some very dry twitter humour
• How to fake time travel using twitter
• Gez Lemon shows how to create accessible drag and drop using ARIA.
• YQL is now not only read but also insert,update and delete.
• A great but also very graphic video and campaign about Motor Neurone Disease – MND
• The BBC finally released their JavaScript library Glow as open source.
• Slickmap is a CSS to show sitemaps in a very nice fashion.
• A proposal for Anti paparazzi clothes and accessories
• A Nice tongue-in-cheek minimal CSS framework
• A proposal by Yahoo to open source one of our Apache mods – geared for high traffic sites
• SoundAmp – an application for the iPhone turns the device into something of a hearing -aid. Whilst this does not really help the hard of hearing I love that somebody thought about using the microphone of the iPhone as an input and thought about accessibility.

• My cold is getting better (I was flat for two days, annoying that)
• There, I fixed it is what most of my flat looks like
• Teenager swaps iPod for Sony Walkman for a week and finds out amazing things like tapes not supporting shuffle.
• The Pirate Bay releases a video portal and runs the whole thing on HTML5 they are asking for help, of course
• Some wonderful analogies from high school essays – probably fake, but still very funny
• The data collected by the Hubble Telescope is available as datasets – if I ever understand any of that I will start doing some mashups
• If ever you think you are the weirdest person on the web, check out the man trying to find his goddess
• “Loose Tweets sink fleets!” – a collection of nice, updated WW2 propaganda posters

• Google’s best PHP practices when it comes to performance are getting quite some flak from the PHP community this is good. Especially when Google take the info and upgrade the docs quickly.
• There’s a complaint that you “need to use two hands to turn on the private (porn) mode in Firefox”:https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248970. True, this can’t be in alignment of the use case.
• An interesting survey showing the tech industry hot spots in the US
• A pretty cool viral video by Samsung how to make a camera vanish (and the solution to the riddle)

• An interesting wrapper solution for embedding video with HTML5 and fallbacks for older browsers
• Tristan says as it is the web is hackable
• Microsoft know how to fix issues – just move your mouse

• When can I use… is an interesting site featuring compatibility tables for features in HTML5, CSS3, SVG and other upcoming web technologies – watch out PPK, you got competition.
• Steve Outing wrote a good piece on monetization of online editorial content – Forget Micropayments—Here’s a Far Better Idea for Monetizing Content introducing Kachingle as a company that has a good plan
• An interesting Matrix of fonts bundled with Mac and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Finding out that YUI has a nifty date formatting tool like strftime in JavaScript
• An OsX hack to allow quicklook to show markdown
